TELENGANA JOINT ACTION COMMMITE

Telangana Joint Action Committee plans to launch fresh offensive in September:-The Telangana political Joint Action committee (TJAC) is moving ahead with plans to relaunch the separate Telangana movement and intends, among other things, to lay a complete siege to Hyderabad for 48 hours starting September 30.

Although TJAC is pulling out all stops to organise a massive demonstration of pro-T protestors with an eye to bringing normal life in Hyderabad to a grinding halt, the cold response from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which has positioned itself as the torch-bearer of the movement, has come as something of a damper. However, undeterred by that, TJAC is saying that thousands of protesters would converge on the city's prime spots to demonstrate in support of a separate Telangana state.

"No matter who is active or inactive in the movement, we are determined to march ahead. We have drawn up a roadmap for revival of the movement in August. The groundwork is complete," said M Kodandaram, the T-JAC chairman.

He said that the agitation is tentatively slated for kick off on Independence Day with activities like padayatra from the districts to be undertaken which would culminate in a 'Chalo Hyderabad' march on September 30.

While analysts suggested that his remarks were directed towards the silent TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao, Kodandaram, for his part, said that TJAC had taken all pro-Telangana parties and leaders into confidence on the new course of action. The TRS, it is learnt, is hoping that the Union government would announce a separate Telangana state due to compulsions arising out of the prevailing political situation in the state and, therefore, is biding its time before resurrecting the pro-T movement. "We believe the Centre will come out with a clear stand on Telangana, and that could even be before the vice-presidential elections. Our plan of action would depend on that," said Sravan Dasoju, TRS politburo member.

But is the TRS having second thoughts about reviving the movement since it has decided to adopt a wait-and-watch strategy till the vice-presidential polls, which are slated for August 7? Sravan shot back: "There is no question of being silent on the issue. While the TJAC has started the spadework for the mass movement, we are there to support it.

The party politburo will soon meet to decide on the mode of participation."

While TJAC has planned an agitation on the lines of the protest at Tahrir Square, Kodandaram said that the committee was investing its time to regroup.

Steering committee meetings are being conducted at the district level while a new membership drive has been started for subsidiary organisations such as students JAC, medical JAC.

The steering committee meetings would be held in Hyderabad and Nalgonda on August 2 and 3. Kodandaram said that the preparations would continue till August 15.
