K Chandrasekhar Rao offers TRS ticket to KK
Giving further impetus to growing speculation of a possible exodus of Telangana Congress leaders to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), its party president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday met former PCC president K Keshava Rao, and invited him to join the regional party.
The former Rajya Sabha member said he was not averse to the idea after meeting Rao for two hours at his residence and is expected to contest the next Lok Sabha polls on a TRS ticket, sources aid.
"KCR invited me to join the TRS. He said with the pro-Telangana leaders joining TRS, the Telangana movement would become stronger and I think he is right. We will take a call at a meeting of Telangana Congress MPs scheduled for Monday," Keshava Rao said.
"Acquiring political power is the only means to achieve Telangana and the party is aiming at winning 15 out of the 17 MP seats, and 100 out of the 119 assembly segments in the region," KCR said.
The TRS has time and again tried to inject life into a dying Telangana movement and many pro-Telangana politicians say the Centre's delay in announcing a decision on the 'T' issue could hurt their vote bank in the long run with supporters getting jittery in their constituencies. "We have now realised that the Congress can never give us Telangana and we can never achieve it, without a strong voice in Parliament ," KCR said.
TRS sources said Keshava Rao, popularly known as KK, is expected to contest from Secunderabad or Malkajgiri . Sources said KK is eying Secunderabad as the position of Congress is weak there with the sitting MP Anjan Kumar Yadav, opting out of the next elections.
While marketing minister Mukesh Goud is willing to contest from the constituency , the Congress high command is yet to take a call.
Union minister for surface transport Sarve Satyanarayana, who represents Malkajgiri, is facing tough opposition in the constituency and TRS believes that it could help the party ride on a Telangana wave to a facile victory.
KK's meeting with KCR assumes political significance as it comes close on the heels of Manda Jagannatham, Congress MP from Nagarkurnool meeting TRS chief on Saturday and announcing that he would join the party.
Among the Telangana Congress MPs joining TRS are S Rajiah (Warangal), G Vivek (Peddapalli), and Ponnam Prabhakar (Karimnagar).
Manda slams D K Aruna
Gutha Sukender Reddy (Nalgonda ) and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy (Bhongir) are said to be tilting towards YSR Congress, but nothing has been finalised yet. Manda Jagannatham, who accompanied KK to the meeting with KCR, launched ascathing attack on D K Aruna, minister for information and public relations, and charged her with weakening the Congress support base in Mahbubnagar district.
"While the Congress is losing credibility by its dilly-dallying over Telangana, leaders like D K Aruna are weakening the party with their corrupt practices. It would be difficult for us to continue in the party if the Centre fails to announce the separate state of Telangana," he said.
G Vivek, who is at loggerheads with CM Kiran Kumar Reddy, told TOI that he would wait for New Delhi's verdict on Telangana for a while before he decides on his next plan of action.
Ponnam Prabhakar, who is seen as an active member of KK camp, is in a dilemma as the TRS leaders want him to contest for assembly polls at Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency, reserved for the party's senior leader B Vinod Kumar. Sources close to Ponnam said he is likely to stay back in the Congress. TRS sources said two TDP MLAs, Gangula Kamalakar and Suddala Deviah, were in talks with KCR, while some seven legislators of the principal opposition party were expected to join TRS.
